UNDP delegation works with Thua Thien Hue province
On May 30th, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Phuong hosted a reception for business delegation of United Nation Development Program (UNDP) in Vietnam and Central Management Board of “Improving the resilience of vulnerable coastal communities to climate change related impacts in Viet Nam” project (GCF project). Attending the reception were leader representatives of relevant departments and agencies.
Accordingly, two main components of GCF project are deployed in Thua Thien Hue province i.e. supporting house construction and managing disaster risk information system. Till now, Provincial People’s Committee has had decision on establishing Project Management Board; approved documents of component projects and master implementation plan. Storm-resilient house construction component will be deployed in 47 communes of 5 districts with total 315 beneficiary households. As estimated, the project will support 90 households in 2018.
Based on deployment report, UNDP Deputy Country Director Ms. Akiko Fujii kindly informed that the delegation will have field inspection to assess project deployment in detail. On this basis, Central Project Management Board will disburse funding in accordance with proposed roadmap.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Phuong kindly informed that Thua Thien Hue province is severely affected by climate change. Therefore, UNDP support via GCF project not only has practical meaning to coastal resident in dealing with natural disasters but also provides Thua Thien Hue province with suitable socio-economic development solutions to adapt to climate change. Vice Chairman committed that Thua Thien Hue province will obtain highest achievements in accordance with proposed objectives as well as deploy the project as planned.
