In an attempt to develop Hue as the typical Festival city of Vietnam, continue and promote the success of 7 Traditional Craft Festival seasons, the People’s Committee of Hue city will organize the 8th Hue Traditional Craft Festival themed “The Quintessence of Vietnamese Crafts” (April 26th to May 2nd, 2019). Hue Traditional Craft Festival is a periodic event held on every odd year (Hue Festival organized in even year) to maintain, honor and develop traditional crafts as well as contribute to the development of Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province and entire country.
Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2019 themed “The quintessence of Vietnamese traditional crafts” aims to introduce, promote craft quintessence, traditional craft products and Vietnamese traditional gastronomy. Foreign cities having established twin relation with Hue city will also attend at this year event.
In an attempt to leave a good impression on visitors and Hue locals, the Organizing Board takes a special interest on building program and arranging spaces. This year event will bring together craft villages and manufacture units whose products have not been introduced on Hue Craft Festival occasion such as lotus products (lotus textile, wine, tea, painting, conical hat, towel, fan, etc.) made by artisan from Hanoi, Hue, Ho Chi Minh and Dong Thap. In addition to unique products of traditional craft villages, Hue traditional oriental medicine will also be introduced by organizing health check and performances. Aodai-sewing which is one of the traditional crafts of Hue and country-wide localities will be introduced on this year Festival.
The arrangement of traditional craft spaces is another special point in this year Festival. As informed, the Organizing Board will arrange many beautifully decorated spaces to honor artisans, craft villages, lotus, silk and brocade, Aodai, oriental medicine, lantern, kites, etc. Traditional products from foreign countries will also be showcased on this year festival occasion. Each space will not only tell a story about the traditional craft, but also introduce craft products imbued with Vietnamese tradition as well as international integration.
In addition, the Organizing Board will also arrange a pedestrian space on Huong river, pedestrian street system which connects South Huong river pedestrian street, North Huong river pedestrian street and Chu Van An – Pham Ngu Lao – Vo Thi Sau pedestrian street, etc. These efforts are expected to create a romantically picturesque space along Huong river and interesting activities organized during Festival occasion.
What’s impressive in this year Festival is the preparation of craft villages and manufacture units with an aim to introduce new products. Obviously, Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2019 brings more trade value compared to previous festival seasons. In particular, some local enterprises, craft villages and units found the orientation for traditional craft and apply crafts effectively to create new products by wood carving art, traditional lacquer painting technique and fashionable footwear production, etc. Besides, community interaction is an impressive highlight which is expected to leave a good impression on audiences and visitors.
